PERSONAL TESTIMONY
I share my experiences with you not to boast in anyway, but to show you how God has led in my life and to tell you that God will lead in your life too because He loves you so much. I attended a college in Nebraska for 1 year and a college in Texas for another 2 years.  While at the college in Nebraska, I was overlooked by the professors and by some of the student body because of my handicap and because I needed a little more help than other students.  I was accepted more at the college in Texas.  My major required an internship and towards the end of my second year I learned that no one would let me have an internship because of my disability. I didn’t know what to do after this took place.  I went home to Kansas City for the summer.  During the summer, my parents and I found out about a program ran by the state of Missouri which trained handicapped people in the field of computer programming.  I went to the University of Missouri in Columbia for an interview with the professor in charge of this program, after which I had to wait to see if I would be accepted into the program.  This program was an extension division of UMC and was called TODCOMP which stands for the Training of the Disabled in Computer Programming. In 1979, the state of Missouri only accepted 20 students out of the whole state for the 10 month session.  This made it seem like my chances of being accepted would be slim to none. I was driving home from my summer job and I remember I was just talking to God out loud.  I asked the Lord what would happen to me if I wasn’t accepted into TODCOMP.  When I got home, I shared with my parents my concerns and we had prayer right then with all of us voicing our concerns to the Lord. The next day I was the first one to be at the mailbox and in the mail was my acceptance letter.  God had answered our prayer in a positive way. After graduation, I went back home to Kansas City and went to apply for a job with a hospital.  Shortly after applying for this job, I went on vacation with my parents to Collegedale, Tennessee to visit relatives.  As we got out of the car, my Grandmother had come out to greet us and said that the Adventist Health System had called and offered me a job as a computer programmer.
