BIBLE TRUTH ABOUT DEATH
“As I live” says the Lord God, “you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel. Behold, all
souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who
sins shall die.” Ezekiel 18:3-4 *
The above text can be explained by allowing the Bible to explain itself. This is what we
learned from the Genesis account:“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the
ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.”
Genesis 2:7 *
So the equation which God used to create man was “Dirt” + “Breath of Life” = “Living
Soul”. Take away the “Breath of Life” from the “Living Soul” and you have a dead body.
The “Breath of Life” which God gave is returned to Him at a person’s death.
After Mary Magdalene had come to the empty tomb and had recognized the Man before
her as Jesus, she fell down and was going to hold on to His feet, but Jesus said “Do not
cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father: but go to My brethren and say to
them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’”
John 20:17 *
When Jesus died on the cross, He did not immediately go to heaven. When Jesus was
resurrected, He told Mary not to cling to Him because He had not ascended to His Father.
“Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay
against it. Jesus said, ‘Take away the stone.’ Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said
to Him, ‘Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.’ Jesus said to
her, ‘Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?’ Then
they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted
up His eyes and said, ‘Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. And I know that You
always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may
believe that You sent Me. Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice,
‘Lazarus, come forth.’”
